NutcrackerIt’s been a bit of a cold and miserable week, or is it just me? Freezing temps are ok when there’s snow on the ground and the sun is shining, but anything else is…well, miserable. Although, somehow miserable weather seems much more manageable when it’s the weekend. Whether you feel like staying indoors or getting out for some fresh air, there are great things happening in Toronto this weekend. I’ve got my TOP5 for you.

The Nutcracker at the Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts – Starting this Saturday until January 4th, The National Ballet of Canada presents its annual Christmas show. The Nutcracker is one of the most recognizable ballets in the world. The classic story takes place on Christmas Eve in Imperial Russia and tells the tale of two children who are brought into the magical world of the Nutcracker, filled with Sugar Plum Fairies, rat kings, and more. It’s a great way to introduce the kids to ballet. Also, a reading of the classic story takes place an hour before the show starts and it is free to all ticket holders.

Natrel RinkWinter Scavenger Hunt – Everyone loves a good scavenger hunt so take the kids to Harbourfront Centre this weekend and join in on the Winterfest fun. Participants will explore a time capsule from 1957 and investigate how artists get inspiration for their work. Visit the Info Desk while on-site for your scavenger hunt checklist. Also don’t forget to bring your skates, for a free skate around the Natrel Rink and maybe enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.

Outdoor Winter Market – This Sunday from 10:00am to 4:00pm, skate, shop, eat, drink and celebrate winter with Evergreen and Junction. Bundle up for this one-day outdoor holiday market at the Evergreen Brick Works where you can stock up on antiques, crafts, and vintage items at this special edition of the Junction Flea. Then lace up for the season opening of Evergreen’s outdoor ice rink.

1812 ThompsonThompson Saturdays – If you need to unwind by taking over the dance floor and want to feel good about it, the Thompson Hotel is the place to be Saturday night with a fundraiser/toy drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish. Bring a few unwrapped gifts along for kids, then get ready to get wild as three floors with three different sounds rock the boutique hotel.

Ossington Night Market – If you still haven’t finished your holiday shopping, head down to Oz Studios and brows this pop-up shop for stocking stuffers including jewelry, perfume and candles, while sipping on drinks at the cash bar. The Market is open until December 18th, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
